New Delhi had grown at a fast pace ever since it was founded as the seat of Indian government in 1912. In modern times, rapid growth of population and increasing rates of vehicle ownership in the city caused severe traffic congestion and air pollution. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was created by the Government of India and Government of Delhi to construct and operate the Delhi metro system. A master plan for the metro network consisting of eight lines totalling 245 km was drawn up to be implemented by 2021. In September 1996, the government of India approved phase-1 of the project for construction.
As the lead consultant appointed by DMRC, OC Global has provided the following services and OC India has been providing support:
Phase I: 65km with 58 stations
Phase II: 125km with 85 stations
Phase III: 161km with 90 stations
Phase IV: Priority corridors 65.202 km 45 stations under construction
This project is the first in India where all construction workers were equipped with helmets and safety shoes. It is also considered the first project in India where the construction period was shortened and a model case that enlightened the people to think of the possibility of reducing the time for construction.
