  • Consortium of Oriental Consultants India Pvt. Ltd. and Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. is engaged to provide services to Japan Railway Technical Service (JARTS) for coordination and supporting for implementation of their T&C Services.
  • JARTS is nominated by JICA (funding agency for National High Speed Rail Project) for imparting training programmes as JARTS signed an MOU with National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) for the "Provision of Training & Certification -T&C Services and Advisory Services for Construction of Track Works for Mumbai- Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project” in 2021. The training programmes and its certification are concerned on providing adequate technology on the slab track work of SHINKANSEN technology based on Japanese HSR practices and regulations. JARTS Japanese instructors train participants on technical know-how of track work construction throughout classroom lectures and on-site demonstrations of track work.

    • Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ahmedabad Metro on Friday 30th September 2022 by flagging the metro train at Kalupur station. With the inauguration, the 21-km corridor of the project between Thaltej and Vastral with 17 stations became operational. This corridor has a 6.6 km underground section with four stations. The occasion was graced with the presence of Mr. Hashimoto (Managing Director, OC India) and other senior officials from the JV companies.
    • Oriental Consultants Global (supported by OC India) has rendered services for successful completion of entire underground section of the project and have also participated in Elevated Corridor and Depot Construction with other JV members.

  • Award of “PMC-TRS” Contract
    Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. together with Japan International Consultants for Transportation Co., Ltd. (“JIC”, President: Masahiko NAKAI, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (“NK”, Representative Director and President: Hiroaki SHINYA, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) is awarded the PMC- TRS* Contract with National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) on August 31, 2022.

    *PMC-TRS: Project Management Consultancy Services for Track, Rolling Stock, Sabarmati Depot, Inspection & Maintenance cars and Training Simulator Packages for the Construction Stage of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project.

    This Contract was awarded by NHSRCL to a consortium consisting of JIC, NK and OCG (Japan International Consultants Consortium: “JICC”). The term of the contract is over 8 years from the signing of the contract to the end of fiscal year 2030.

  • Regarding the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (“the Project”), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (“JICA”) awarded JICC a contract for “General Consultancy” [Technical Assistance/Grant aid] for the High Speed Rail Construction Project in India on December 9, 2016, and since then JICC has executed standard design and detailed design, prepared bidding documents and provided bidding support in the design and bidding of the project. JICC was also awarded a contract for advisory services related to civil packages’ design for the construction phase in June of this year, and has been making efforts to promote the Project. This contract with NHSRCL is funded by a yen loan from JICA.

    With the signing of this contract, JICC is aiming at the success of the Project, the first high-speed rail in India. Each member of JICC will contribute to the development of public transportation in India as well as over the world by utilizing its various knowledge and know-how on public transportation.

  • PDF: 220902 Award of PMC-TRS Contract
    • The contract for “General Consultancy Services for Rolling Stock, Signaling and PSD works of Reach-6, Phase-2A and Phase-2B” of Namma Metro between Bangalore Metro Rail Ltd. (“BMRCL”) and the consortium comprising of Oriental Consultants Global, Co., Ltd. (“OCG”), SYSTRA (Lead Member) and DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH (“DB”) was executed on 4 March 2022, at a bid signing ceremony held at BMRCL HQ, Bengaluru.
    • The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. N.M. Dhoke, Mr. D.R.K. Reddy, Mr. Jitendra Jha, Mr. Rajeev Mishra, Directors of BMRC, and, from the Consortium side by Dr. Reiko Abe of OCG, Mr. Hari Somalraju of SYSTRA and Mr. Nataraj K.M of DB.
    • Oriental Consultants India Pvt. Ltd., as 100% subsidiary company of OCG in India, will Provide support to OCG and participate in the execution of this project.
    • The Project aims to ensure a reliable and efficient public transport system, thereby creating balanced regional development and improving the urban environment. Bengaluru has experienced a significant rise in number of registered vehicles from 1.6 million in 2001 to 2.6 million in 2005 and 8 million in 2019 respectively. The project is expected to meet rapidly increasing vehicular traffic demand, reduce traffic congestion, road accidents and lead to a modal shift from personalized vehicles to public transport system.
    • The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has signed a Loan Agreement with the Government of India, to provide Japanese (ODA) for the development of Phase 2 of R6, 2A and 2B of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in Bengaluru.
    • OCG has had a long association with Namma Metro and has participated as part of GEC for BMRC Phase1 service since 2007, out of which, 42km is currently operational. BMRC plans to extend its network in Phase2 by 133 km including 93 stations (Total 175km). OCI is expected to support the execution of the project with OCG’s technological and managerial guidance along with their extensive experience of Metro Project. OCI will provide its best service on the project, which will Expand the Metro Network the city of Bengaluru.
    • The contract for General Consulting Services for the Chennai Metro Rail Phase 2, Line-4 and a part of Line 3 & 5 Project between Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (“CMRL”) and the consortium comprising of Oriental Consultants Global, Co., Ltd. (“OCG”), AECOM India (“AECOM”) and Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (“NK”) was executed on 20 November 2021.
    • The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. T. Archunan and Mr. Rajesh Chaturvedi, Directors of CMRL, and Dr. Reiko Abe of OCG, Mr. B. Ramana Naidu of AECOM (the lead member of the consortium), Dr. G. Sampath Kumar of NK.
    • Oriental Consultants India Pvt., Ltd., as 100% subsidiary company of OCG in India, will substantially participate in execution of this project and support OCG.
    • Metro Rail is said to have significantly changed the concept of urban transportation in India. It is the most convenient, comfortable and dependable mode of urban transportation for the citizens especially for women as it caters to their safety. Now the benefits of Metro Rail are widely understood, and many cities in India are planning to build their metro network and expansion of Chennai Metro is an evidence of it.
  • Chennai is the sixth large city with a population of about 4.7 million, and a 54.15km metro rail is up and running as part of Phase 1 (Lines 1 and 2). The Phase 2 (Lines 3, 4, and 5) has been planned for further convenience of the citizens and the construction has already begun on Lines 3 & 5. Now our consortium has been awarded the contract by CMRL for Line-4.

    The 26.09 km Line-4 will connect Light House – Poonamallee Bypass through 28 stations. One-third of this line is underground as it passes through the city center. OCI is expected to execute the project with OCG’s technological and managerial guidance along with their extensive experience of underground construction. We will do our best as consultants, to provide high quality infrastructure in the city of Chennai.
    • On December 23, 2025, Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson of OC India, delivered a presentation at “INDIA CONNECT – the “Keys” to Entering the Rapidly Growing Indian Market”, the event hosted by Sumitomo Realty & Development Co., Ltd. and supported by the Embassy of India, Tokyo, held at Shinjuku Sumitomo Hall, Tokyo.
    • The event aimed to promote the creation of growth opportunities for Japanese companies entering the Indian market by sharing the know-how and insights of operating companies in India, and facilitating business matching. Approximately 350 participants attended.
    • As a presenter, Dr. Abe introduced projects including Delhi Metro Project and Mumbai- Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project, the largest yen-loan project undertaken by Japan. In addition, during the networking session, she exchanged views with participants on business activities in India.
    • In recent years, many Japanese companies have been paying close attention to the potential for business expansion in India. However, differences in culture and business practices often cause significant barriers to market entry. As a subsidiary of OC Global (Japan), OC India and our projects have become one of the model cases for Japanese companies expanding their businesses in India. By sharing our experience and expertise, we continue to contribute to mutual growth and development in both India and Japan.
    • Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson of OCI, was awarded the “ACECC Civil Engineering Achievement Award” upon the nomination of Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) at the 10th Civil Engineering Conference in the Asian Region (CECAR10) held in Jeju, South Korea, on 23rd October 2025.
    • Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council (ACECC) is an international body that comprises 17 member societies, including JSCE. The Council organizes the CECAR conference every three years, where it presents various awards to outstanding contributions and accomplishments in the field of civil engineering.
    • Dr. Abe has over 30 years of experience as a tunnel engineer and project manager, contributing to major railway projects, such as Delhi Metro, Bangalore Metro, and Ahmedabad Metro. Beyond her technical achievements outside her native country, she has actively supported the development of future generations through her role as a STEM Girls Ambassador appointed by the Japanese Cabinet Office and through lectures at universities and other institutions.
    • In recognition of these remarkable contributions, she was nominated by JSCE and honoured with the prestigious award.

    • On April 4, 2025, Mr. Hashimoto, Managing Director of OCI, attended the Certificate Presentation held at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Office, where Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) presented the Certificate of Appreciation on Promoting Quality Infrastructure to MoHUA.
    • The certificate recognized MoHUA’s successful execution of the Varanasi International Cooperation and Convention Centre Construction Project—nicknamed “Rudraksh” by Prime Minister Modi—implemented under Japan’s grant aid through JICA. The recognition highlights MoHUA’s appreciation and adoption of Japanese technology and accomplishments. Mr. Hashimoto attended the presentation on behalf of our parent company, Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. (OCG), which was responsible for the project’s design and general consultation during the construction period. The certificate is after OCG’s receipt of the 7th JAPAN Construction International Award from MLIT in September 2024, as the project was carried out with outstanding quality and significance.
    • Mr. Hashimoto explained OCG’s role in the project and described how OCI, as OCG’s local subsidiary in India, supported the work on the ground. He also exchanged views with the MoHUA representative about Japanese quality control and innovative technologies applied to the project.
    • The event reaffirmed the strong collaboration between Japan and India in delivering high- quality infrastructure and strengthening cultural ties.
    • Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson, delivered a speech on March 20, 2025, during the 338th monthly meeting of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India (JCCII). Held in a hybrid format at the Ambassador’s official residence at the Embassy of Japan, the event brought together representatives from JCCII member companies and organizations.
    • JCCII has over 500 members, many of which are based in the Delhi-NCR.
    • Dr. Abe’s speech was a part of the “Masters of India” which features individuals with deep engagement in India across various fields. Dr. Abe shared her experiences in India, focusing on the Delhi Metro Project, which stands as one of the most notable and successful examples of urban development in the country. She highlighted the importance of fostering mutual understanding and collaboration to advance projects.
    • Her deep understanding of India, along with her positive character and sense of humour, offered inspiration and guidance to those seeking to deepen their engagement, and to contribute to stronger Indo-Japan relations.
    • Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson of Oriental Consultants India (OCI), was invited as the keynote speaker at the "4th Indo-Japan Pre-Conference Workshop on High-Speed Rail & Challenges Associated" held on December 18, 2024. The workshop is part of a collaborative initiative between the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) and the Japanese Geotechnical Society (JGS).
    • Key Highlights of Dr. Abe's Presentation
    • Dr. Abe, a distinguished civil engineer and industry expert, delivered an insightful presentation addressing the challenges associated with safety and execution in metro and high-speed rail projects. Drawing from her extensive experience, she highlighted key aspects of geotechnical challenges, safety measures, and innovative execution techniques. Safety Risks in Metro Projects: Dr. Abe shared her experiences working on the metro projects in Delhi Bangalore and Ahmedabad, focusing on the safety risks faced by workers in addition to engineers. She emphasized the importance of implementing robust safety measures to mitigate these risks.
      On-Site Visualization (OSV): Dr. Abe explained the adoption of OSV monitoring methods at construction sites, which significantly enhanced worker safety and operational efficiency.
    • Focus on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project
    • In the later segment of her presentation, Dr. Abe delved into the ongoing Mumbai-Ahmedabad High- Speed Railway Project, one of India’s flagship infrastructure projects funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). She highlighted several key points:
      Longstanding Involvement:Oriental Consultants has been involved in the project since December 2013, beginning with the feasibility report, followed by detailed design, and now overseeing project management.
      Challenges in On-Site Execution: Dr. Abe elaborated on the geotechnical and execution challenges being faced during the project’s implementation.
      Skill Development Initiatives: She also spoke about the "Program for Track Training & Certification (T&C)," a specialized training initiative designed to support high-speed rail skill development in India. She underscored how the project aligns with the "Make in India" initiative by fostering local expertise and capabilities.
    • Strengthening Indo-Japan Collaboration
    • Dr. Abe’s address reinforced the importance of Indo-Japanese collaboration in advancing geotechnical engineering and infrastructure development. Her insights and contributions at the workshop not only highlighted the technical challenges but also emphasized the human and professional aspects of engineering safety and innovation.
    • Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson of OCI, delivered a speech to junior and senior high school students in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan on 2nd August 2024. The speech was part of a tour of science and engineering companies organized by the Wakayama Prefectural Government.
    • Dr. Abe, a prominent pioneer of female engineers in Japan, has been appointed as a "STEM Girls Ambassador" (STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) since 2018 by the Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office, Government of Japan, and continues to give on-site lectures for students and at various events. She, the successful role model, has been encouraging young female generations in Japan to pursue careers in engineering through her persuasive experience and powerful words.
    • In this session, Dr. Abe motivated the young audience, including many females, by presenting her career and experiences abroad as an engineering consultant, focusing on her struggles and achievements in the Delhi Metro Project. She emphasized the excitement of working abroad and the importance of pursuing one's goals with determination. The eager teenagers were highly impressed with her encouraging speech, and they wholeheartedly responded with a "yes" when asked if they were interested in working abroad. Our leader’s engagement contributes to establishing a prosperous future where everyone can exercise their abilities regardless of gender.
    • Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson of OCI, gave a speech at the JICA Project History "Manga Version" Special Seminar held on 13 th December 2023 in Tokyo. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has published the "Manga Version" of JICA projects to inspire younger generation and showed them the achievements of Japan's ODA.
    • Abe’s experience on the ODA project, "Madam, This is Our Metro!", was introduced at the seminar. Other authors also shared their experiences and struggles on their projects in the seminar where around 70 students and young professionals participated. Participants expressed their opinions and raised questions using their smartphones to which speakers responded.
    • One of the questions was "What is the approach to deal with difficulties during overseas projects?". Abe answered, "As a consultant, we carry out projects in a neutral position, maintaining a balance among various stakeholders, including the local government, residents and contractors. We believe that having a sense of balance and good communication skills are crucial."

    • Dr Reiko ABE, Chairperson of OCI, made a speech to 90 students of high school and junior high school in Hokkaido Japan in October 2023, about her career as an engineering consultant. She also shared her overseas working experiences in several infrastructure projects such as Delhi Metro and Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail.
    • She has been holding some seminars in Japan since 2018, as a "STEM Girls Ambassador" appointed by the Gender Equality Bureau Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan, and she encourages female students to pursue their careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.

    • Celebration of 20-year Delhi Metro Operations in Delhi was held on 24 th December 2022 in presence of DMRC officials, the Ambassador of Japan, JICA India Representative, UNDP Representative.
    • At the ceremony, Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson of Oriental Consultants India, made a guest speech and congratulated DMRC on the occasion of 20 memorable years of their outstanding performance.
    • She further said “We, Oriental Consultants Global, have been walking together all the time with DMRC over 20 years, all the past projects since Phase-1 construction started. The environmental and social situation in Delhi before 2002 and today completely differs with huge improvement, for which DMRC’s successful growth and operation contribute. DMRC played the prime role, especially changing life and working style of women and improved even security situation during night hours. DMRC is not only providing transportation service to Delhi resident but they become the leader and benchmark of all other metro projects in India.”
    • She concluded her speech stating “It is also such a remarkable moment that India and Japan have celebrated 70 years of their diplomatic relationship. Both countries are always moving together ahead, while strengthening their partnership, transferring of best technologies with lots of successful projects all over the country for mutual benefit and interest.’’
    • On 17th Nov 2022, 9 engineers from Nexco Engineering Niigata Company Limited (NEN), together with East Nippon Expressway Company Limited (E-NEXCO) and Japan Expressway International Company Limited (JEXWAY), visited OC India headquarters in New Delhi for participating in a workshop on highway infrastructure in India and Japan.
    • The Workshop started with opening addresses by representatives of JEXWAY and OC India, followed by introductions and presentations of activities, technologies etc. in Japan and India by NEN and OC India respectively.
    • Dr. Abe, Chairperson of OC India, introduced the current operation of OC India and delivered a presentation on the Safety Management of Japan ODA Projects in India. She also presented various international practices for construction and operational safety being introduced to the railway and other large-scale infrastructure projects in India.
    • NEN presented Japanese safety standards in road sector, technological advancements and devices for executing safety measures.
    • Workshop was proceeded with exchanging opinions and ideas, Q&A session over road accidents and their prevention methods, following by concluding remarks.
    • Nexco Engineering Niigata Company Limited is a group company of E-NEXCO as a Japanese company with rich experiences over decades in the expressway sector. They are managing more than 430 km of expressway in Niigata Prefecture in Japan and involved in developing state-of-art technologies, inspections, monitoring to keep expressways safe.

    • At the 9 th International Civil Engineering Conference in the Asian Region (CECAR9), Goa, India on Thursday, 22 nd September 2022 Dr. Reiko Abe,
    • Chairperson of Oriental Consultants India, the Indian subsidiary of Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. gave a talk on safety management. She stressed on various international practices for construction & operational safety being introduced to the railway and other large-scale infrastructure projects in India.
    • The conference was organized by the Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council (ACECC) and hosted by The Institution of Civil Engineers (India) ICE(I). During this event delegations from 16 countries were present.
    • CECAR, is one of the major activities of ACECC. Leaders and decision-makers from academia, industry, and the public sector get together to discuss the issue of infrastructure development in the Asian region and disseminate developments and potential solutions to the world. CECAR is held every 3 years with participants from ACECC member countries and others.

    • At the "INTERNATIONAL RAIL CONFERENCE, Railways: An Engine of Growth for Aatmanirbhar Bharat", held in New Delhi, India on Saturday, December 18, 2021, Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson and Director of Oriental Consultants India, the Indian subsidiary of Oriental Consultants Global Co., Ltd. gave a talk on safety management. She stressed on various international practices for construction & operational safety being introduced the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation (DFCC) project.
    • This conference was sponsored by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and co-sponsored by the Embassy of Japan in India and JICA.
  • CII, the leading business association of India, provides major platforms for various sectors for industry, government thinktanks and policymakers including major annual workshops and conferences across all business verticals in India, among them being the largest Railway related annual conference IREE that brings various aspects of railways on one multifaceted platform.

    • OCG and OC India are proud to have been associated with Delhi Metro Phase I, II & III projects for the past two decades. The project has been awarded with the prestigious ‘Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award’ for the year 2020 by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE). The JSCE termed the Delhi Metro project as ‘High-Quality Infrastructure Development Project’.
    • On behalf of JSCE, OCG and OC India handed over the Award Plate to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRC) on 17th Nov at DMRC Headquarters. Managing Director, Mr. Mangu Singh received the Award from Dr. Reiko Abe, Chairperson and Mr. Yasunori Hashimoto, Managing Director of OC India. The award consists of a plaque and a citation commending the outstanding infrastructure been built for the betterment of society.
    • In a separate ceremony on 6th December at RITES Ltd Gurgaon, Dr. Abe handed over the replica of the Award to its CMD, Mr. Rahul Mithal. Mr. Hashimoto and Mr. A. K. Arora, Director Projects, OC India also joined the ceremony. RITES is the consultancy wing of the Ministry of Railways, that has served along with Japanese consultants on the Delhi Metro as part of the General Engineering Consultancy Consortium led by OCG and has provided an excellent support in the growth of Delhi Metro since its inception till date.
    • The JSCE in its award note stated that the Delhi Metro's projects have brought awareness of safety and efficiency at construction sites in India, and provided residents with safe, secure and comfortable transportation. The Delhi Metro since its inception has been closely associated with Japan. JICA has supported all the phases of Delhi Metro project, including the ongoing Phase IV project, providing financial support and knowledge assistance by introducing Japanese innovative technologies and unique work culture.
